Lots of Deer!

Image
I meant to write last week but time got away from me and I didn’t get it done. So, this week I’ll have extra pictures to show you! Pap-pap and I were sitting on the patio when a doe came out of the weeds with her twin fawns. She grazed while the little ones played. They chased each other back and forth.              Aren’t they cute? When a doe is old enough to have a fawn, she’ll have just one the first time. After that she can have twins or even triplets! I haven’t seen any triplets in a long time.   When the kids were done playing, their mom gave them a bath. First, she licked one…            Then the other one. Then they walked around the pond and off into the weeds. Another day we saw a doe with just one fawn. That means she’s a first-time mother. She knew that Pap-pap and I were watching her, but as long as we didn’t move too much, she stayed put. The fawn suckled. The baby finished eating and the...

Tiger

Image
Hello Andrew!           I love, love, LOVE writing letters to you. Do you know why? It’s because when I’m writing I’m thinking about your handsome face and it eases the ache in my heart from missing you so much, that’s why!           Tiger!           Tiger, Tiger, Tiger!           That cat!           Do you know what he did? He caught a beautiful little bird. I’m sure he was going to eat it but I didn’t let him. Since the yellow finch was still alive, I made Tiger turn it lose and it flew away. Boy-oh-boy! Was Tiger mad at me!           Then he chased a chipmunk up a little tree.             I don’t even know if cats eat chipmunks. But it was this little guy’s lucky day becau...

Gigging

Image
Dear Andrew,           Guess who went gigging!           “What’s gigging mean?” you ask.           Gigging means to catch small fish or frogs with something that has a lot of little prongs on it. In this case, that would be claws at the end of Tiger’s foot!           Tiger caught another frog!           The frog wasn’t moving.           Was he dead?           I picked him up and he didn’t move. I watched to see if I could see him breathe. I couldn’t. I turned him over to see if I could detect a heartbeat. He flopped like a wet noodle and I couldn’t see any heartbeat either. But that leads me to another question. Can you see a frog’s heartbeat? I don’t know. Even though he wasn’t m...

Oh Deer!

Image
Dear Andrew,           You won’t believe what happened to us this week!           Oh! My! Goodness!           It was quite an adventure!           Pap-pap wants a new tractor. He wants this tractor.                This tractor lives up in New York state about one hundred twelve miles away from us. It takes about two and a half hours to drive that far.               When we started out, the sky was so dark in the background, but the sun was shining in the foreground. This always seems eerie to me.               We had only gone a few miles when I see two deer. They were on the road but jumping up onto a steep bank. I yell, “DEER!” and pointed.   ...

Tiger and Mr. Mouse

Image
My dearest Andrew,           You just would not believe what goes on around here!           “Tell me, Mimi,” you say.           Okay! I will!           This week, our fierce fighting machine was out on the prowl looking for a worthy opponent. That means that Tiger was on the hunt.           And Tiger is a very good hunter! He catches lots of mice — one or two every day!            Tiger brings whatever he catches up onto my patio and eats it there.           “EWWW,” you say.           I know, right! But I think you would feel different about it if you were a cat! They like to eat mice!           “At l...

Dear Andrew,            There’s not a week — no! — there’s not a day that goes by that I don’t think of you! I miss our walks and picture taking adventures and now you’re getting so grown up! The saddest part is that I’m missing it!           But I can’t change that so I won’t dwell. Dwell, used this way, just means I won’t think about it too much.           I like the snow. I like the way it makes the world look so fresh and clean, the way it crunches under my boot, and the way it sparkles like diamonds in the sunlight. This week, Mother Nature threw me a few snowflakes and I smiled.           I like springtime too! The snow didn’t stay around long and it got warm enough outside that I washed and hung our bedsheets on the clothesline. They smell so nice after the sun and the wind dried them.          ...
